Broadway and 73rd, New York City
This was a very familiar scene when I lived in New York. There was always a group of old folks relaxing in the summer sun right there in the middle of all the traffic, noise, hustle and bustle. They could have been sitting in the Bahamas.
As a thoroughfare, Broadway can be traced back to the Native American Wickquasgeck Trail that was carved through the bush of Mannahatta. It became one of the two main streets formed during the settlement of the Dutch West India Company.
Broadway in Manhattan is known widely as the heart of the American commercial theatrical industry, and is used as a metonym for it, as well as in the names of alternative theatrical ventures such as Off-Broadway and Off-off-Broadway.
